Amazing!

Check me out, Mama.

a visit to grandma and grandpa's

I love the iron kitty doorstop! Mama thinks there's a picture of her petting the iron kitty. Maybe we'll find it and post it one day!

social boy!

We have had a very social July so far, and I haven't documented any of it very well! Last weekend, we enjoyed a cookout with Wayne and Erika and their twins, Emma and Callie. Then, yesterday, we had a cookout with Eli and Ellie, and finally, today Kirkwood came to us when three of our very favorite neighbors from our Kirkwood neighborhood in Chapel Hill came for a visit.

Jed and Emma

Thanks to the Erika, Wayne, Emma, and Callie for trekking over from Hillsborough and to Teddie, Cindy, and Ina for heading over from Chapel Hill. We miss everyone so much . . .thank goodness for I-40!

three

Blogged Babies, Jed, Eli, and Ellie, got together for a cookout today! Thanks to James and Delana (Ellie's parents) for hosting and for documenting the meeting. Jed fell asleep less than three minutes after we cranked up the car. Eric waited a full seven minutes. Obviously, a good time was had by all.

And congratulations to Delana on passing her Architectural Registration Exam!! Hooray!! If the mail had come before we left, we certainly would have run out for a couple of bottles of champagne!

Thursday with Jed

First, an update to our ER story: we have yet to locate the little wooden peg I suspected he ate, so I'm assuming that means it's lost and was not consumed.

Second, today, Jed climbed all 20 steps and got himself all the way to his room without my assistance! Don't worry, grandmas: I was always within 2 inches or less of him while he was climbing!

Third, we now have a baby gate.

Hey, look! There's a piece of cardboard in the bottom of this bag!
(In an ironic twist, the bag is from a toy store.)
Awesome! I love cardboard!

Even with all the toys a little boy could dream of,
paper products reign.

faces

if you look closely, you'll see bottom-tooth no. 3

the newest face in Jed's repertoire: wrinkled nose with snorting

whose mother?

Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa who brought Jed's awesome orange shirt from the beach last week. Fittingly (most of the time), it says "good natured" on the front!

undocumented meetings

Jed and I were thrilled and honored to get to meet 7-week-old Lucy yesterday at the tail end of her North Carolina tour! She is a petite little girl with amazingly delicate features, and she is every bit as beautiful as all her 1,000 photos. When Caroline and I traded babies, we were both shocked at their heft: Jed is almost 23 pounds while Lucy is about 8, and I can't even remember what Jed felt like when he was that small! . . . as a wise man once said, if you lift a calf everyday, you'll eventually lift a cow.

Of course, I was also happy to see the proud new parents who seemed to be taking their hectic trip, and parenthood, in stride. Jed's interest in Lucy was marginal at best, and, frankly, I think driven only by her pacifier. He found Henry's funny faces and the hotel's lobby telephone far more entertaining. I took my camera, but left the memory card at home, so I'll let you know when Caroline posts some pictures or I'll post them if she sends them to me.

Also yesterday, we saw our Wilson cousins at lunch! Unfortunately, we didn't cross paths until we were both about to leave, but we did get a tour of their new minivan and Katie told us all about her 4th of July celebrations.

Otherwise, we had a pretty quiet weekend; I think we're still in Cape-May-recovery-mode, but I'll get some new pictures up soon!

happy 4th of July!

an ER visit + cankles

We "enjoyed" our first ER visit with Jed last night. I'll spare him the public posting of all the details, but we had (still have) reason to believe he may have swallowed a wooden toy piece yesterday. Thus, last night, when he became (temporarily) inconsolable we thought the offending toy piece must be offending his gut. We called his doctor, spoke to a nurse, and headed to the hospital on her advice. Several hours and three x-rays yielded no sign of the toy, but the doctor noted that wood does not show up well on x-rays so we also got a quick briefing about signs of a problem and what to do if it seems like he's having trouble.

As usual, Jed was a real trooper and mostly enjoyed the nurses and doctors even though he was several hours late going to bed. So far today, he seems to be feeling fine and is quickly getting back to his routine. Thanks to the staff at WakeMed for seeing us faster than we expected and for not laughing or letting us know they thought we were crazy.

In other "medical" news, we wanted to share this article in light of (or in celebration of?) Jed's enormous tree-trunk legs and ankles.
