Yesterday and today
The pictures from Jed's recent early birthday cake experience reminded me of his first cake experience.
My, how times change.

early birthday with Teddie
Early Birthday /ˈərlē/ /ˈbərTHˌdā/ noun: a celebration of the day on which a person was born happening before the usual or expected time; usually given by someone who loves the honoree very much but may not be able to join the honoree on his/her real birthday. Synonym: practice birthday.
Yesterday, we visited Chapel Hill for an early birthday with Teddie.
As always, a good time was had by all!
Lighting one of 7 candles . . .
. . . plus a special ring-looking "candle" in the middle.
Only Teddie knew what would happen to the ring once it caught . . .
so the sparks startled us all!
Thankfully, Jed recovered quickly.
Thanks for a great afternoon, Teddie!

our cellist
Last night, Jed performed in his first orchestra concert! He was nervous going in, but he seemed very relaxed on stage and enjoyed the experience. We're very proud of his performance.
With apologizes for the sub-par cinematography . . .

the force was with us
Saturday night, Eric's office treated us to a Durham Bulls' game, which also happened to be Star Wars night. The boys wouldn't get close enough to Darth Vader, Boba Fett (did I spell that correctly?), or a stormtrooper for a photo, but they did get light sabers that really do light up.
Macon is still working on the appropriate hand motion to show that he's using the force. Jed's technique looks good.

happy mother's day!
I started Mother's Day with breakfast in bed, with Macon's contribution to my breakfast being a cookie. After standing beside my bed staring at the cookie for several seconds, he finally said, "Can I have half of your cookie?" "Wow," I thought, "He only wants half and he asked politely!"
They gave me several cards that described me as cool, smart, awesome, and as a "clone mom," which is a Star Wars reference and which I am taking as a compliment. They even wore their "red" (magenta, really) flowers all morning! Thanks, boys!
And you might notice a few unusual things in this picture. First off, Jed has a gap-tooth-grin thanks to the loss of a third tooth last week. And second, Macon's face is bandaged. As you can see, he's no worse for the wear, but on Friday night while he was getting dressed (translation: throwing his undies up in the air and catching them), he tripped and fell face-first against the bed rail along the bottom of his mattress. Thankfully, WakeMed's children's ER was unusually quiet for a Friday night and they took him back almost straight away. After a dose of Versed, he got five stitches (one between his eyes and four on his cheek) and we had a drunken, hilarious, hallucinating child back home by 10:15. The Versed took a little time to wear off, so it was another hour before we got him to bed, but he slept late on Saturday morning and has been going at 100% ever since.
And Happy Mother's Day, with all our love and thanks, to our own mothers: the best Mom and Mama and mother-in-laws we could possibly have had. You've made us the parents we are and we love you both so much.
(Happy Mother's Day to you, too, Carolyn!)

happy birthday, Daddy!
Finally, a proper birthday wish . . .
And at the very beginning, you hear Jed say, "That's what I was waiting for." Well, here's the run-up conversation if you're interested:
Me: Ok, go.
Jed: Wait.
Me, waiting. Impatiently.
Jed: burp
Me, laughing: ok, go.
Jed: That's what I was waiting for.

happy birthday, Eric!
The boys recorded a marginally acceptable rendition of "Happy Birthday" this morning and I tried to upload it to youtube so I could post it. However, it appears that I may have managed to delete the recording. So we will try again after Jed gets home from school, but it will be late this afternoon or this evening.
Hopefully, Eric will think a lame birthday post is better than none and an improved birthday post is better late than never.
We love you, Daddy!
