computer update

Our computer is in the shop, and its prognosis is bleak. Actually, it's not that bleak, it's just expensive, to the point that it seems like we'll be purchasing a new computer.

In the meantime, Eric brought home his laptop from work so I could catch up on the outside world. Sadly, I can't upload new pictures, but it is time for my favorite contest of the year: the Washington Post's peep diorama competition. While you wait for new pictures of Jed, take a look at these peep creations.

Hopefully, we'll be back online by the weekend.

death of our computer

Our computer appears to be on its last leg. It is circling the drain. The grim reaper is hovering. There's a fork sticking out of the hard drive. You get the picture. Or more precisely, you won't get the picture. It has taken me 3 years (seriously, almost 2 hours) to make this post, so the blog is grinding to a halt for at least a few days, if not a week or more.

Additionally, contacting me via computer will not work, but Eric will still be able to check his personal email.

egg huntin' part 1

Jed enjoyed his first egg hunt this morning, despite a brisk wind. The Capitol grounds' thick grass was no match for Jed's eagle eyes and he collected 4 or 5 eggs with almost no adult intervention. He has another hunt next weekend, so I'm glad he got some practice in today!

Daddy, do you see any eggs over here?

sunny tuesday

Today was a warm-cold day, meaning it was warm in the sun with a chilly wind and cold shadows. But, as you know by now, we enjoy our outdoor time no matter the weather.

If we didn't live on a corner so that Jed could wave at every passing vehicle, I don't know what the kid would do for entertainment.

play space update

Despite everyone having colds, we all enjoyed reading the paper together on Saturday morning.

playing

playing ball
Eric's school won't be in the final four this year, and my ACC school almost certainly won't either, but my alma mater is there for the second year in a row. Currently, Guilford leads Williams by 8 at the half. Go Quakes!

update: no more b'ball for Guilford, but congratulations to the Fightin Quakers on another great season!

a play space for mama and daddy
Our side yard was a train wreck of terraces and planting beds, but today, our landscape guy laid a lot of brick. It's not finished, but it's coming together and with today's beautiful weather, I'm thinking that dinner might be outside tonight.

and a play space for Jed
Ironically, on a 70+-degree-day after a cold, wet winter, I purchased a rug and switched our breakfast area from this

to this

I think we'll miss the table, but our dining room will get a lot more use and Jed seems to really like spreading out.

nnnnoooo!

Well, it's happened. We knew it would; it was just a question of when.

Over the last week or so, Jed has slowly increased his protests, both in number and ferocity, when he's asked or made to do something he doesn't want to do, or sometimes, when he's made to do something he actually wants to do, like eating. Ferocity is probably too strong a word because he's not throwing tantrums, but he's pitching relatively brief mini-tantrums complete with kicking, screaming, and dropping to the ground.

But the topper (and I know it's not the topper, it's really just the beginning) started up over the weekend: Jed has learned NO. He drags out the n and the o and uses a high-pitched, whiny voice and furrows his brow. It's kind-of funny. Except when it's not. At first, he used it only when he couldn't get his building blocks to do what he wanted, but now he's applying it quite liberally and uses it to answer questions. All questions.

It's a whole new world, and I'm not sure Jed's parents are ready for it.

kuts-n-kousins

When I open a beauty shop in a trailer, I do plan to name it Kuts-n-Kousins. Just kidding. You're right, C. Foley, I actually plan to go with It's Just Hair.

Meanwhile, Jed and his cousin Maggie spent Friday morning together. The pair had a great time with the building blocks Shannon gave Jed a while back. So much fun was had, in fact, that Maggie ran out of steam and enjoyed a lengthy morning nap, which I hope didn't ruin her mother's afternoon.

And yesterday, Jed and Eric had a boys morning, during which Jed got a cut, or a kut if you rather. Handsome, indeed! But still not cute enough to get away with climbing on the table.

shirtless wonder

Jed had a breakfast mishap yesterday morning, so he had some pj-less time. He spent his "free" time looking out the window for "mo"s and "curls." If you're not fluent in Jed-speak, a "mo" is a bird and "curls" are squirrels.

quick visit

While Jed hung out with Grandma and Grandpa,I took my first steps into un-retirement by heading to Winston for a project.

I was disappointed to discover that Mr. Barbecue and Miss Fried Chicken are still just friends. Come on, man. Pull the trigger. She's wasted half her life waiting on you. Seriously. You've already got a sweet little log house. Man up, Mr. Q. And put some pants on.

a visit from SoPi

Yesterday, our friend Janey brought her parents up from Southern Pines for a visit. We had a great morning at the park followed by barbecue for lunch!

First, some coffee cake.

Jed's jacket + Janey's Cinderella dress = perfect outfit for climbing

And finally, a few days ago, Jed realized just how much it would take to fill Mama's shoes.
