more electricity

We've gone from ice to spring-like temperatures.

And given the likelihood of electrically-charged storms today, I thought this might be a good time to share Uncle Mike's diagram of electricity delivery. A few months ago, Jed was asking me a million questions about electricity and how it gets to us, so we wrote them down for Eric's Uncle Mike who is a retired lineman. Many weeks ago, Jed got great answers and a wonderfully detailed diagram in the mail. Uncle Mike should consider a teaching career for his retirement because his explanations were thorough but clear enough for history majors to understand. Although we got this a long time ago, I'm only now getting around to scanning it to share with everyone. Thanks, Uncle Mike, for helping us!

ice ice, baby

Red sky in the morning . . .
(taken with my phone through a grimy upstairs window)

 sailor take warning.

After about an hour of pretty snow, things took an ugly turn.
Thankfully, the freezing rain has turned to sleet, so hopefully, our power lines are safe.

Also this morning, Macon awoke with locks and ringlets.

But before the bad weather set in, we had him (somewhat reluctantly says me [Mama]) trimmed up.
With his lightened load, he was much less willing to sit for a photo shoot.

uncross those fingers

We're getting ready for another Friday "snow." Unlike last week, it's certainly cold enough this time, but I'm certain we won't get a thing because Chatham County Public Schools jinxed us when they announced at 3pm today that they will dismiss early tomorrow. Great work, CCPS! You win this week's Put Your Sleds Away, People Award!

And to think... I stocked up on bread and milk today. Oh, well.

it's 'lectirc

On our last Germanton visit, Jed discovered the electric train, or 'lectric, as Jed says. On our first night there, he didn't fall asleep until well after 9 (very, very, very late for Jed) and he was up at 3:30 (obviously, very, very early) because he was so excited about the 'lectric train.

And here are a few more pictures from our "snow" on Friday morning.

snow sort-of

Last night, heavy rain turned to wet snow at Grandma and Grandpa's. Unfortunately, it turned back to rain so that what looked like at least 2" last night had turned into 1/2" of icy mess by morning. Still, the boys played until their little hands were frozen!

mixed media

Jed is watching Curious George on Eric's phone.
Macon is sitting on a Curious George book and "reading" another book.

Hhhuuummm. Your Curious George talks . . .

but I'm comfortable with mine.

around the neighborhood

On our way to school his morning, we paid a visit to our favorite car.

On Monday, I recorded some of Macon's words . . .

and in the afternoon, we watched helicopters circle downtown several times.
Practice for the governor's inauguration ceremony on Saturday?

go go go

Fitting, then, that this ornament shows Macon as the un-catch-able gingerbread man.
