snow motion

Listen carefully and you'll hear Jed say "neeno," which means snow in Jedspeak.

snow

This morning, I gleefully opened the front door to let Winston out, but the hiss of sleet slapped me in the face! Right now, we have about 5 inches of sleet and snow on the ground, but the sleet has dashed all hope for snow cream.
On the bright side, it's not freezing rain, and on the even-brighter-side, Anastasia, our neighbor across the street, brought over her sled so we could brave the million-pin-pricks of the sleet for some downhill joy!

Jed has a lot of work to do.

Like this, Daddy?

mango

While our ever-accurate weather prognosticators chant "snow," Winston begs, "please drop the mango!"

No, not that mango.

sunny monday

After a blustery overnight rain, the clouds cleared out so we cleared out of the house!

favorites

Since Uncle Brian and Aunt Dara gave him Duplo blocks for Christmas, one of Jed's favorite indoor activities has been dumping them out. Today's rain gave him the chance to expand his horizons: he learned the joy of dumping them on the coffee table for extra volume and of putting them back to facilitate re-dumping.

And here's a tiny clip of his favorite word.

blue skies

Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy and cold, but why worry about the future when it's 67 today!

baby Wilson arrives!

Our family grew by one early this morning! Our new cousin (and Katie and Maggie's new sister), Lillian Maria, arrived just after midnight. Congratulations to the Wilsons!

a smashing weekend

On Friday, Jed took a tumble. I'll spare you the chill-inducing details, but it involved his fingernail (or current lack thereof), screaming, a trip to the pediatrician's office, and assistance from our neighbors, Betsy and John, who helped me get both dog and child home.

On Saturday, he tried to scale a chair and re-injured the same finger. Again, more screaming and a trip to the pediatrician's office. Ultimately, we ended up at the ER. Five hours later, we walked out with a remarkably chipper son, antibiotics, and a neatly dressed finger. Thankfully, Grandma and Grandpa were in town to assist us!

Today, Jed has been back to his old self, "helping" me with groceries and attempting to hurt himself again.

don't worry, folks, I've nailed the bottom drawer shut

sad excitement

This afternoon, our neighbors' furnace caught fire, damaging their house significantly. Presumably, this was one of the worst days of their lives. For Jed, however, 7 fire engines, 3 ambulances (although everyone was fine, including two dogs), various fire department support vehicles, and multiple police cars made for a great day. One fireman shared his helmet and mask with Jed, but no one would let him have the objects he desired most: axes and oxygen tanks. Amazingly, he slept through their arrival, but as we started on our evening walk, two trucks treated him to lights and horns as they rolled away.
