highlights from Marmie's visit
Marmie headed home to the peace and quiet and cool temperatures of Duluth yesterday, but not before doing a little walking with Macon and giving Jed an early birthday gift.

D.C.'s loss, GSO's gain
Our friend Caroline is in the process of moving from Washington, D.C. to Greensboro. We're thrilled to have her back in N.C., but the District will lose a wonderful activist. She's promoted playgrounds in D.C. tirelessly and advocated for the amenities that make urban living with children possible and attractive. It seems like she's leaving Washington better off, and today, she's highlighted in a column in the Washington Post. Congratulations to Caroline! And welcome home!

marmie and the park!
After getting a good dose of her granddaughter over the weekend, Marmie headed east to visit us. As a double-bonus, today was Jed's last-day-of-school party at Pullen Park!
Macon checks out a bench
Jed and a comrade.
Jed's not gagging himself, he's just in the process of making his favorite camera face, which you'll see in the next shot . . .
. . . and the next shot.
And Macon made his own face as the train started moving.
Then it was on to the boats.
Macon was interested, but I figured it might not be his cup of tea yet.
And finally, to the crown jewel.
This wasn't Macon's cup of tea either, but he survived.

more mother's day
I know you're thinking "more pictures, less writing!" But Jed's really excited about practicing letters, so we're excited about it, too. For you, that means lots of pictures of what may appear to be scribbles, or possibly Arabic in some cases.
Yesterday, the boys took me to lunch and they gave me a beautiful necklace and earrings, but the best gift might have been this one.

If you're not very good at translating Jedwrite, this says I love you.
happy mother's day!
Happy Mother's Day to . . .
Grad
(almost "Grandma" but not quiet)
and Marmie

But no matter how you spell it or orient it, happy mother's day to Grandma and Marmie! We love you!

food for fun
Will you be in the GGMA (Greater Germanton Metropolitan Area) this weekend? If so, don't miss breakfast at the Germanton Park on Saturday morning. The all-you-can-eat buffet will run from 7 until 10, and all proceeds go to the park's maintenance. Click here for a map.
sitting, standing, sharing, writing
Jed's chair is my favorite place to sit.
And it's my favorite place from which to stand up.
But mostly, I like it for sitting.
I also like to share my milk.
But I'm not so keen on sharing the chair.
And some writing from Jed: his first two attempts at writing Macon's name.
He abandoned the first go at the half-way mark, but the second try is pretty good.
On a technical note, you may notice that our photos aren't so great lately. That's because our camera is not working, so I've been using my phone's camera. Maybe a new camera will show up on Mother's Day.
